Instructions for Pressure Test Kit:
- Remove all fittings from the garden tap to be tested,
- Screw the Tee connection onto the tap,
- Close the gate valve by turning it in a clockwise direction,
- The gate valve should now be closed, and slowly turn on the tap, water should not come out of the gate valve, if it does, close the gate valve in a clockwise direction,
- Read the pressure on the gauge, it should be somewhere between 200 and 1200 kPa. (This is known as closed head pressure),
- Slowly open the gate valve until the pressure gauge reads 300 kPa, water is going to come out of the gate valve and it should do this,
- Now, place the 10 litre bucket under the stream of water and measure the length of time in seconds that it takes to fill the bucket,
- Repeat step 7 a further 2 or 3 times so that you are sure of the length of time that it takes to fill the bucket,
- Turn off the gate valve slowly,
- The pressure gauge should now be reading the closed head pressure,
- Turn off the garden tap and open and close the gate valve, the pressure gauge should now read 0 kPa.
The number of seconds formula:
60 divided by the number of seconds it took to fill the bucket x by 10 litres = your available litre per minute flow at 300 kPa. (If you used a 9 litre bucket, multiply by 9). The chart below has already been calculated so just look down the left column for the number of seconds and the right column will give you the available flow in litres per minute.

Write down the closed head pressure, the pressure reading on the gauge when you were doing the bucket test and the flow that you measured, all of these measurements are important when you come to designing your system or when you send us the information to design the system.
